FAQs

Everyone has a lot of questions before deciding on permanent make-up. Here are the ones most often asked. Before you decide on a treatment you will have a full consultation with Annie and have the chance to ask her the questions that are on your mind.

1. What is permanent make-up work?
Permanent make-up is a type of cosmetic tattooing in which pharmaceutical grade coloured pigments are infused into the second layer of your skin. The final result looks like perfectly applied make-up and is long lasting.

2. How long does it last?
A lot depends on your skin type and the particular pigment – darker pigments are unaffected for longer than light colours that are more likely to fade as a result of sun and natural causes. Factors such as medicines you are taking, your lifestyle (including smoking) and your personal metabolism can contribute to fading. A top up is recommended after 12 to 18 months to keep your permanent make-up looking fresh.

3. Who is permanent make-up for?
Everyone who wants to improve their face by giving it a younger, fresher well groomed effect! Many women find that it saves them precious time every morning, as well as making the face look younger and healthier. Permanent make-up offers particular benefits to anyone who suffers hair loss through alopecia or after chemotherapy.

4. I don’t know if permanent make-up is my thing
Before any treatment takes place Annie will conduct a consultation with you. This is your opportunity to ask her any questions you have about the treatment and about things you are unsure of or concerned about. You will be able to discuss what results you want and Annie will be able to explain what she can do for you. Annie will advise you and help you decide what treatment will suit your face and skin colour and will use her skills and experience to achieve the transformation you want.

5. Does it hurt?
We make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you. A topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated in order to minimise any pain or discomfort you may feel.

6. What if I don’t like the result?
Annie will consult with you to find out just what it is you want and will tell you what she can achieve for you. She will use ordinary make-up to draw new eyebrows on your face so that you can see what she is proposing and can agree the shape. The colours she uses will be blended specifically for you. You will be consulted at each step so that you get the result you want.

7. How soon can I go out after treatment?
Generally you can go out straight away – most clients go straight back to their usual routine. Some do experience swelling and redness but this normally goes down within 48 hours. The healing process can take up to 21 days.

8. What can I expect post treatment?
To begin with the colour will be about 40% stronger than the final result and the area of the treatment may be dry and flaky for 3-7 days afterwards. After this there is a natural process of exfoliation and the final colour is revealed. A follow up appointment is made for four to six weeks after your initial treatment to check on the outcome. The colouring will be adjusted without further charge.

9. Will it look false and unnatural?
The colours of your permanent make-up will look stronger for the first 3-7 days but the final result will look very natural.

10. Is permanent make-up safe?
Yes, it is. The parts of the equipment that come into contact with your body are disposable and instruments and high standards of hygiene are applied throughout treatment. Annie use pharmaceutical grade pigments form a leading supplier.

11. What about allergic reactions?
The pigments used are of the highest grade and reactions are rare. However, you should always have a patch test before treatment.

12. Can I wear make up afterwards?
After the treated area is healed you can wear ordinary make-up as you wish.

13. Can I play sport or go swimming immediately after?
You must avoid sports on the day of your treatment and swimming, saunas, steam rooms or sun beds for at least 6 days afterwards.

14. Are you insured?
Annie has public liability insurance to protect you in the unlikely event of anything going wrong.
